TROPHIES OF WAR.

NEW ZEALAND CAPTURES.

METHOD OF DISTRIBUTION.

The principle governing the distribution of war trophies in the Dominion is explained by the Minister for Defence in a letter to the Te Aroha Chamber of Commerce. "All war trophies captured by the infantry on the western front," he writes, "are distributed between the towns in which the headquarters of each regiment is situated. War trophies captured by the troops on the eastern front aro dealt with in a similar manner. Instructions have been ksued by the commandant of the New Zealand military forces to headquarters of units that war trophies allotted to the towns in which regimental headquarters are situated are not to be codsidered the exclusive property of these towns alone, but as the property of the regimental area, and that the claims of other towns in that area must receive consideration. Officers commanding units have also been instructed to confer with the Mayors of towns in which their headquarters are situated, requesting them to communicate with the Mayors of other towns in that area, with a view to forming a committee to deal with the distribution of these trophies on an equitable basis. It will;! therefore, be necessary for you to submit your request to the local authorities at Hamilton." The chamber decided to apply to the 1 Mayor of Auckland inquiring if he is actI ing in tho matter.
