DAMAGE TO A PIANO.

PLAINTIFF AWARDED £10.

A claim for £20, being the estimated amount of damage done to a piano in the process of repolisking, was brought by Owen C. White (Mr. Glaister) against Jethro Lock, trading as the National Piano Company (Mr. Sexton), before Mr. J. E. Wilson, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court yesterday. For the plaintiff it was alleged that on or about November, 1917, the defendant, in polishing a piano owned by plaintiff, damaged its frame to such an extent that a new one was required. The defence sought to establish that the piano was affected as a result of being subjected to sulphuric acid and salt water in the suppression of a fire on a ship from which it was salvaged, after which the plaintiff bought it for £38. Defendant did not give a guarantee that the polish would stand.

After hearing evidence, judgment was entered for the plaintiff for £10, an amount which it was estimated would put the frame in repair.
