MANAGES OF RAILWAYS.
MR, R, W. McVILLY APPOINTED SUCCESSOR TO MR, HILEY. OFFICER OF LONG SERVICE. [BT tklegbaph.—ows CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, Saturday. Mr. R. W. McViliy, assistant-general manager of railways, has been appointed general manager as from April 30 next, when the present manager, Mr. Hiley, will retire. The term for which Mr. Hiley was originally appointed expired in August last, and he expressed a wish then to have hie engagement terminated, as he desired to return to England. At the special request of tho Government, Mr. Hiley agreed to retain his position until the close of the financial year.
Mr. R. W. McVilly. the new general manager of railways, ioined the service of the Railway Department as a boy, and has had 39 years' service. His first poßt was in the Dunedin office, to which he was attached for some years. In 1895 he was transferred to the general manager's office in Wellington, and for many years he held the position of chief clerk under the ex-general manager, Mr. T. Ronayne. Mr. McVilly accompanied the late Hon. J. A. Millar on a visit to Australia, when the latter was Minister for Railways. Mr. McVilly was appointed assistant-general manager of railways in 1914.
