J. L. Mason did splendid service by winning tho half-mile in the good time in tho day of 2min. 3sec-. and the mile in 4min. 39scc. It was expected that the final of tho 100 yards would go to another New Zealander, in Private W. J. Lindsay, who had. shown much the host running in the preliminary heats, but he was not placed, Lieut. W. R. Dickens, of the Scottish Command, getting the verdict in an intensely exciting finish.
