THE CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES.

CENTURIES FOR FOUR MEN.

The second series of matches in the first round of the Auckland Cricket Association's championship was completed on Saturday, in good weather. As was anticipated hy the standing of the t<ams after the previous day's play, wins wero gained by University, North Shore and Ponionby. against Grafton, I'amoll and Eden respectively. Play generally was good, a feature bo.ng tho consistent high scoring. Ernie Horspool, iM not out, and Sloraan 184, wore a great help to Grafton, while Garrard 114 not out, and Nicholson 60 not out, contributed largely to University's total. for Farnell, Simpson compiled 111, and MrLeod 81. Hard ami fast wickets wcro a ureal, help to the batsmen, although on the whole, tho bowling was up to standard

General interest was taken in tho junior championship games, and in the competitions of tho Suburban and Senior CadetsAssociations.

UNIVERSITY V. GRAFTON. University and Grafton finished their match on Victoria Park. When time was called University had made 334 for thrco wickets, but Grafton had on the board 400 for four wickets, the result of scientific and careful cricket. Horspool and Slornan in partnership mado 359. As University declared on tho 334 runs for the portion of tho first innings, they gained a two-point win. Scores are; —
