CURT ORDER TO TROOPS.
STAND FAST IN POSITIONS,
ENEMY'S RAPID RETREAT^ Australian and N./> Cpblo Association. (Heed. 1.30 a.m.) PARIS. Not. 12. Tlio end of hostilities came to tho armies in the field in the following form at 11 o'clock on Monday: " Tho troops will stand fast on the positions reached at 11 o'clock to-day, November 11. A line of outposts will be established, and the fact reported to headquarters. All military precautions will be preserved. Thero will" be no communication with the enemv."
This curt message, on a pink slip, which sufficed to end the fighting, was sent out at thirty-six minutes past soven, and was known throughout the front within an hour. Among the foremost troops were King Edwards' Horse, who had reached the outskirts of Ath. The Germans had scurried away without even blowing up tho bridges. The British troops took no chances, but • continued fighting to the very end.
