. Sir,— desire to draw public attention to the absurd way in which the War Regulations dealing with wharf passes are being administered. I was expecting- my • mother, who was travelling alone, by the Niagara, and desired to meet her and assist her with her luggage. For ought I knew she might have been one of the passengers laic low with influenza. I took a written request from a well-known firm of solicitors of this oity, and endeavoured to get a pass for the wharf. This being refused I saw one of our stipendiary magistrates, and he endorsed the request ana signed it. I presented the request again j but with the same result. As this guarantee by one of our stipendiary magistrates that I could be trusted on 1 tho wharf was insufficient for the Department. administering these regulations, an explanation should be given to the public on tho matter.
