Tho Admiralty announces that at eleven o'clock on tho morning of October 6 the armed i mercantile cruiser Otranto came into collision with the steamship Kashmir. Both were carrying American troops. Tho weather was very bad, and after the collision the two ships drifted apart, soon losing tight of oach other. ' . Tho destroyer Mounsey was summoned by wireless, and, by skilful handling, took off 27 officers, 239 of the Crew, 30 United States military ratings, and 30 French sailors, and landed them at a north Irish
port. • v The Otranto drifted ashore at Inlay Island and becamo a total wreck. Sixteen survivors were picked up at Islay. The casualties are believed to have been heavy. It is feared the following have been drowned: —335 military ranks and ratings, 11 officers, and 85 members of tho crew. The Kashmir landed her troops at ft Scottish port. There were no casualties.
