TROUT FISHING SEASON

Tine trout fishing season, which ■ opens in tho Auckland s Acclimatisation Society's district to-day, is "expected to ' provide excellent sport : for • anglers. It is stated by experts that the winter, conditions have been very " favourable, and'-. that '• the f fish have made •'excellent" growth. /The, Auckland ~ society ; has pursued a progressive policy' in : regard to stocking the;; streams in . the '; various'* acclimatisation ■/ districts affiliated the parent body, ''with", the result that good fishing is now obtainable in localities that-previously, were unknown to the angler. •;/ ( _ ' • / Close .to Auckland /.the Maungatawhiri arid other streams north of Mercer have been well stocked, and considerable attention in the*same direction; been paid to Like Takapuna. These localities .'should provide sport ' e&dy in the \ season, in view of the > fact that, there has been '■ no j abnormal rainfall during the late winter.' The fishing streams of the King Country, particularly \ the Wanganui v River ;at ; Taumarunui. Z &re usually ; at' their best;- from the angler's point of view later in the season, when'good sport is obtainable,.also in the- numerous streams of t the ,Te Ku iti district, and the Waipa River, at; Otoiohanga. ?' Reports from these localities state that. the streams have been Z kept well stocked with young fish, and a good season is anticipated. Tho/Waihou River,"Ziii the Te >Aroha district, ? a"nd /the/f Oraka, Z ; at Tiir&u, are also favourite -resorts for anglers, ;- while several streams"/ in '/ the Ohinemuri district are"■'.:''said 'to bo well worth a visit./: The chief stream of /the Ohinemuri district is -the- Waitawheta, which has its source-between-,/Tel; Aroha and Katikati, and is suitable for fishing for 12 miles above Karangahake, ; where it joins tho Ohinemuri. It is an excellent ny-fithing stream, - v running Z for,-: • several miles through native ; ; bush; and rocky gorges. There aro also 1 flat reaches of 'the river, which can be reached by niotorZcai.'. Tho Waitekauri, .
