ROADS DAMAGED BY FLOODS.
LOSS IN WANGANUI COUNTY. [bt telegraph.— correspondent.] WANGANUI, Friday. The damage done in the district by the recent floods was more extensive than v.zs first euppo?ed, the, estimated loss in Wangaaul County being £5475. On the Ahuahc Road alone, on a distance of 15 miles, some £5000 worth of work has gone down the hillsides and gullies. This road cost about £9000 to construct a few years ago. While tie upper slips we serious, the major damage hasten caused in th« valleys. Ten large fillings, costing abo ,: £2000, have been swept away oy tha flood waters. Escept for the telephone, which has just been repaired, the settlers in this district are completely isolated, and will be lucky if a bridle track ready for them in a month. The settlers in the district also lost a great deal of stock, and the prospects for getting their wool out this season are not good.
