Corporal Herbert H. Sharp, of Gisborne. who has beep killed in action, was well known in Auckland. Formerly he was manager of two sheep stations on tho East Coast owned by Mr. Hugh Carlyon, and later was manager of Mr. Carlyon'a, property, Kaburangi. at Glemfield, in the Birkdale district. Corporal Sharp was a keen tennis player. PRIVATE E. A. HOGG. Private E A. Hogg, who was killed in action in France on August 30, was the aides), son of Mr. and Mrs. H. It Hogg, of Opotiki. He left New Zealand with the nineteenth reinforcements, and had been 18 mentbs on the western front. Private tiogt was educated at the Opotiki district school, and afterwards at St. John's College He was farming- with his father at the lime of his enlistment His brother. Lieutenant H. R. Hogg, who joined an earlier reinforcement, had his right band shattered at Messines; upon his recovery he returned to the front early this year, and was again very dangerously wounded last March at Beau* mont ITameL Last advice states he is still in a precarious condition.
