A YEAR'S DREDGING AHEAD.

Trre authority necessary under recently issued war regulations to proceed with the construction of the proposed landing at Freeman's Bay for oil, coal, and timber cargoes, lias been received by Mr. H. P Heather, chairman of the Harbour Board, frdm the Hon. A. M. Myers, ActingMinister for Finance. "All that is now necessary," said Mr. Heather yesterday, is to prepare a plan to cany out the dredging, and it is expected to start the work early in November. before commencing operations, both dredgers will have to be docked, as they have been laid up for so long. I would like to make it clear that the p'.ans we are working to have been prepared by the board engineer. The proposed wharf was anticipated some time ago, and plans had been' carefully gone into before the engineer left, so that a commencement could be made directly the opportunity offered. The engineer's absence does not affect _ the position at all, as he is fully cognisant with all the details. There is 12 months dredeing ahead before any wharf construction can take place, and before the latter work is commenced, Mr. Hamer will have returned.
