SUPREME COURT SENTENCES
YOUTHFUL MAORI BURGLARS. Three prisoners who had pleaded guilty to indictable offences in the Lower Court and one who had broken the terms of her probation were brought before Mr. Justice Hosking for sentence at the Supreme Court yesterday. Two Maori youths, Piri Tuhl. taau Heemi and Te Ariki Tuhatahi, admitted having broken into a store at Whakatane and having stolen a quantity of goods. The police report on the former was unfavourable, and he was sentenced to two years' reformative treatment. Tuhatahi, who, it was stated by the police, had probably been influenced by the other accused, was admitted to probation for a period of two years, and was ordered to pay the coats of the prosecution, £2 18s, within three months. Nicholas Quintall (Mr. Inder), convicted of false pretences and forgery at Hamilton, was admitted to probation for two years, and ordered to pay the costs of the prosecution, amounting to £3 12s, at the rate of 10s a week when in employment. Harvey Catherine Johnson,- for having broken the terms of her probation, by becoming intoxicated and damaging property, was readmitted to probation, the period being extended from one to two years as a result of her lapse.
