COLD STORAGE EXTENSIONS.

COMBATING SHIPPING SHORTAGE. Thb necessity for increased cold-storage space for the primary products of the Dominion waa emphasised by Mr. S. J. Ambury at the annual meeting of the Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company yesterday. He said that, notwithstanding the large extensions that had been made to the company's works since the outbreak of the war, on two occasions during the last killing season, owing to shipping difficulties, the company was within 24 hours of having to close down for want of storage space.

_ Mr. Amoury said that further extensions to the company's works at Auckland, Southdown and Horotiu were nearly completed, and would be ready to receive meat or dairy produce within the next six weeks. The increased storage waa equal to 200,000 601b carcases in meat, making a total capacity for the three works equal to 700,000 601b carcases. The directors realised that after the war was over the space provided this year would not be required for some time, but with the large accumulation of Imperial Government produce in the stores and the unfavourable prospects of shipping, there was nothing to do except to build. The cost of the extensions was, approximately, £50,000, but if the company had not provided the storage the producers of the Auckland district would have suffered very heavy losses. The speaker added that, notwithstanding the present congestion in the freezing and other stores, the storage difficulties in the coming season would not be so acute as they had been during the past year. ° *
