CORPORAL E. N. MATTHEWS. Corporal Edward N. Matthews, who was killed in action on August 28, was tho eldest ion of Mr. Newton Matthews, of the Auckland post office. He was educated at tho Remuera district school and Auckland Grummar School He joined the staff of the Rational Bank of New Zealand on leaving school, but later took up farming with his trade at Paengaroa, Bay of Plenty, from which place he enlisted at the ago of 19, leaving with tho eleventh draft. He served With the 16th Waikatos all through the first Bomme offensive. He was wounded .in February, 1917 After serving for some time as an instructor at Sling he returned to France, first serving in the Er'renchmg Battalion and afterwards joining the first battalion of his old regiment. His brother, ♦Trooper Victor G. W. Matthews, is at present serving in Palestine with the 3rd, Auckland, Mounted Rifles.

GUNNER R. W. SHEEN. Private cable has been received that Gunper R. W. (Reg.) Skeen was killed in action 3D September 5 in France. -He was a trailer attached to the 12th Battery. S.ZFA., ninth reinforcements, and left New Zealand in January, 1916 . On March 28, 1918, he was wounded during the battle ol Amiens, and rejoined his battery six weeks later, with his brother, Gunner H.C. Skcen who was also wounded. Gunner Reg. Skeen was born at Thames, and was educated at the Kauueranga Boys' school. He was the fifth son of Mrs. M and he late Mr. Benjamin Skeen. Prior to foment he was on tee Auckland staff of the.Bank of New Zealand, and later was at Fiji and Hawko s Bay.
