ENEMY CONCENTRATES GUNS BOTH SIDES OF CAMBRAI.

Australian and N.Z. Cable Association.

LONDON. Sept. 6.

Mr. Percival Phillips writes: Fighting ceased as abruptly as it began along the new front of the Canal du Nord, and only local conflicts occurred to-day. The Germans have concentrated their guns heavily on both sides of Cambrai. We made no effort to attack Moeuvres. There is a great deal of work to be done. New depots must be built, and roads and railways require reconstruction. It is incoiroct to say that Lens has fallen. The German outposts hare withdrawn to some extent, but the enemy holds the bulk of the ruins' though we are established in the town on the north-west and southwest. The Germans live underground, and enter the city by tunnels Lens is a complete ruin, and even the site of the Cathedral is unidentifiable.
