RETIREMENT COMPARED TO THE RETREAT OF 1917.
PEACE OFFENSIVE AND PROGRAMME FOR THE EAST. Timos ' (Received 10.40 p.m.) LONDON. Aug. 12.
A military correspondent states that the Germans are preparing to resume their strategical defence on the west front. The movement resembles the retreat in the spring of 1917. They will probably confine themselves to local offensives, while prosecuting a peace offensive and military operations through Turkey in the East.
