THE CHAMPIONSHIP. UNIVERSITY THE WINNERS. The play-off for the Auckland Hockey Association's championship took place ,at Bemuera on Saturday, Mount Eden being defeated by University by 2, goals to 0. ■ University won the opening bully, but Mount Eden soon attacked. A bout of hitting went in University's favour, and the blues soon assumed the offensive, Bartleot doing good work. After a spell of interesting play Carr tried a speculative shot, which went through the ruck,, and Scherer scored. la the second. spell University attacked immediately after the bully, and advanced almost to Mount. Eden's circle, but the latter cleared. University, got the advantage again, and Garrard sent in a long centre, from which Carr scored the second for the students. [BY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION.] DUNEDIN, Sunday. The hockey match, Otago v. Canterbury, was played yesterday. ' The game opened with a brief attack by Otago. but about five minutes later Canterbury got into its stride and dominated the play for tho greater part of the game. The visitors wire heavier and faster and played with better combination than the nome team. The Canterbury forwards showed marked superiority. Despite heavy scoring the Otago backs showed a fine defence. The game resulted in a win for Canterbury by 6 goals to 1. The Otago score was registered in the last minute. The scorers for . Canterbury were Smith (8), Bell (2), and Holland. Hogg scored for Otago. The proceeds will be devoted to the Soldiers' Convalescent Home Fund. i
