LAND FOR SELECTION.
OPENING OF OTAIKA GUMFIELD. [by teleobaph.— correspondent.]
WHANGAREI, Friday. Ax immediate advantage to the'Whangarei district, ensuing from the Dominion Conference of the New Zealand Farmers' Union in Wellington, is the proposed opening of the Otaika gumfield area for selection. 'A remit urging this was forwarded by tho Maungakaramea branch of the Farmers' Union, and received the support of tho conference. Subsequently tho Minister for Lands promised to open the area, and to instruct the Commissioner of Crown Lands at Auckland to expedite the matter. Tho land in aucstion comprises about 2000 acres of undulating country, traversed by the main road < from Whangarci to Maungakaramea. .', •:
