TRAM CONGESTION REMEDY.
STATE OFFICE HOURS CHANGED.
[by TELEGRAPH.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, Friday. Cabinet has approved of tho suggestion made by tho City Council that the Government offices in Wellington should close at 4.30 p.m. each day to relieve the strain upon tho tramway sen-ice during the rush hours. To enable the normal number of hours to bo worked tho offices will open at 8.30 a.m. in the morning instead ofat 9 a.m. It is estimated that fully 3000 Civil Servants uso the trams, and it IS hoped that, by spreading the traffic oyer a longer period, the overcrowding will not be so great. The innovation will also mean some alteration in the railway and ferry services, and in order to allow the necessary readjustments to tho train and boat, services to bo considered, the early closing order will not operate immediately.
