UNABLE TO FILL VACANCIES. [BY TELEGRAPH.— COMffiSPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Tuesday. The statement that there are at present 12 vacancies in the lighthouse staff was made by Mr. G. Allport, Secretary of the Marino Department, in giving evidence i before the First Wellington Military Service ! Board to-day. Not only had the Depart- I ment beon unable to fill the vacancies, he added, but it had found much difficulty , in getting even temporary'men to carry i on the work.
