INQUIRY INTO ACCIDENT.
FATAL WELLINGTON COLLISION.

WELLINGTON, Tuesday. An inquest concerning tho death of Mr. Ormond C. Cooper, who died on Saturday from injuries sustained in a motor-car accident in Molesworth Street on the previous Wednesday, was opened to-day. Michael Kearney, driver of the car in which the deceased and four others were riding, said he was travelling down Molesworth Street at about six or seven miles an hour. He applied his brakes to avoid a motor-car in front, and then a twohorse lorry came into view, When witness applied his brakes the back of the car skidded, a tram struck the front of the car, and a shaft of the left side of the lorry struck the witness's car, and wont through the body. The lorry was moving up the street, and, as far as witness could see, had no light. There was sufficient room On the proper side of the road for the lorry to have- passed the tram. The driver of the .tram said his car was travelling about four or five - miles an hour The spot where the accident occurred was very narrow, and the lorry was moving towards the wrong side of the 6treet.
The inquest was adjourned until tomorrow.
