SALVATION ARMY APPEAL.
s r r 3 3 1 3 t I r > i i i I Many worthy appeals havo been i made to tho citizens of Auckland ' during the past four years, but nono ; more worthy than that now laid - before them on behalf of the worldI wide war work of the Salvation Army. Numerous organisations aro caring for the material and moral ', welfare of the great army which Britain has placed in the field, ami : the work of all is admirable. There ' is no jealousy among thorn- and no , rivalry save generous emulation in [ doing most for tho soldiers. While, therefore, it is impossible to single . out one organisation for praise above . the others, it may fairly be said of i the Salvation Army that its efforts ! are as unselfish and successful as ; any, and merit the same generous • support as Auckland has given to i previous appeals on behalf of various i classes of war work. The Salvation Army has also a special claim that cannot honourably bo disregarded in that it has postponed its appeal over a considerable period in order to avoid clashing with other similar campaigns. Further postponement is now neither necessary nor possible, because the Salvation Army has • had to overdraw its banking account in order to carry on, and in face of. a call for help more urgent than ever before finds itself without funds on which to draw for var supplies. There is a clear call to the public of Auckland to subscribe fully the amount for which it is asked, so that the activities of the Salvation Army in the camps, the field, and the hospitals may not be prejudiced. There is abundant evidence of the gratitude of New Zealand soldiers for the kindnesses shown them by. the Salvation Army all along the long trail from Trent.'ham to the firing line. They cannot repay themselves, but they will expect the public to do so for them in full measure.
