THREE AUCKLAND SOLDIERS. ■'*$> The Military Medal has teen awarded to i Private H. W. Hynes for gallantry on ttojp | field of action. Private Hynes, who is aMI son of Mr. M. Hynes, of Pollen Street, w j Grey Lynn, has completed almost fo«r|||j years' service in the present war. Ha|j|| was a member of the Samoan advance W party, and on returning to New Zealand'£| i he enlisted with the fifth reinforcements. j||| 1 He has been wounded on three occasions, |§jt 1 once on Gallipoli, and a second time dur«/M| ' ing the Somme battle. He is, at present jM on active service on the western front.'^| , Private Hynes is 27 years of ace, and ||| . was formerly employed in the Heraid '-M
Office. . wR The Military Medal has also been : awarded to Sergeant Ashley Cook, eon of ■.■■ Mr. John Cook, of Point ' Street, Mount / 0 Eden. Sergeant Cook left with the fourth" <v:. reinforcements, attached to the Army Transport. He was on Gallipoli, and >r| later went to France, and has been ■fe almost continuously on service. A '■ p brother, Private Sydney Cook, who left ' -y, with the twenty-fifth reinforcements, was op| ki'led in action'on October 12, 1917, near Passchendafle. .-^SK Private Roland V. Conway, a former pupil of the El'erslie Fchool, has been , 'fc awarded the Military Medal Private. -J Conway is attached to an Ota<;o Company.
