HOSPITAL SHIP OUTRAGE.
AMERICAN CONDEMNATION.
DEMAND FOR RETRIBUTION. A. and N.Z. NEW YORK. July i.
Newspapers throughout the country are unanimous in their expressions of disgust at the sinking of the hospital ship Llandovery Castle.
The New York Herald says it is another reason why the Germans should be execrated by decent peoples for all time. Henceforth the Germans have no rightful place in civilisation. No language is strong enough to denounce such murderers.
The New York Tribune says the sinking of the ship shows incredible brutality, coupled with blind trickery like a jungle monster gone mad. Germany has clearly embarked on a policy of sinking hospital ships.
The New York World says it is an infamous crime, for which Germany must expert fearful retribution.
The New York Times says that the sinking of an illuminated hospital ship adds another atrocity to Germany's foul record. The cold-blooded assassins have desecrated the cross of merry; they strike nntl slay, glutting their cruelty on helpless non-combatants. The allies must see that Germany pays full retribution for this crowning atrocity.
ENEMY'S IMPUDENT DENIAL DUTCH PRESS SHOCKED. LONDON. July 4. The sinking of the Llandovery Castle continues to excite most bitter comment in the press and on the platform. The Dutch newspapers have joined the chorus of condemnation of German methods, which, they say, outrage every decent sentiment of humanity, Germany's reply to the Admiralty's statement consists of an amazingly impudent denial, alleging that a British mine was responsible for the disaster.
