MOUNT EDEN MAYORALTY.

MR. 0. NICHOLSON RESIGNING.

The Mayor of Mount Eden, Mr. 0. Nicholson, at the conclusion of the council meeting last night, announced thai he would be placing his resignation in the hands of the town clerk before next meeting, and he would not again preside at a council meeting. Business and domestic reasons prompted him to resign, but he was doing so with considerable regret after 18 years' service on the Mount Eden local body.

Mr. C. Hudson, expressing regret at the determination of the Mayor, said Mr. Nicholson had a unique record at Mount Eden, inasmuch as he had been Mayor of the borough from the time it had' been constituted as such—a period of 12 vears. Prior to that he had been a member of the Road Board for six vears. Mr. Hudson alluded to the progress of the district during Mr. Nicholson's term of office, and sc.id that he had* every reason to feel proud of the work he had accomplished in the public interest. Mr. J. W. Shackelford also spoke of the good work done for the district by the retiring Mayor, and expressed regret at the cause of his retirement.
