AMERICAN CONCRETE SHIP.

SUCCESS IN TRIAL TRIP. SAN FRANCISCO, May 7. The trial trip of the first concrete steamer Faith around the bay of San Francisco is regarded as having been an unqualified success by experts. Cheering throngs acclaimed her as the herald of a vast new industry, supplementing steel and wo. ships, and overcoming the submarine sinkings. T)u" port collector said: — "This success means a vast increase in tonnage, without impairing the facilit'es for producing steel and wooden ships." The Faith's captain said that he never knew a ship easier to handle. The vibrations from the engines were slight. Government officials have arrived to select a site for a concrete ship plant, one of several for which Congress is appropriating £10,000,000. The construction of a concrete boiler for ships will be commenced experimentally at the experts' suggestion in view of the Faith's success. The San Francisco Chronicle, in an editorial article, citing the Shipping Board figures in regard to American shipbuilding, says: "-American ships are now able to show accumulating results by numerous launchings and completed vessels. Henceforth there will be no complaint of American shipbuilding."
