ACTIVITY OF ENEMY ARTILLERY ON BRITISH FRONT.
BOMBARDMENTS ON WIDELY-SEPARATED SECTORS. LIVELY SHELLING OF FRENCH LINES ON THE AVRE. Australian and N.Z. and Renter. (Reed. 8.30 p.m.) LONDON, May 13. Sir Douglas Haig reports: Hostile artillery developed considerable activity north of Serre, Q\ miles north of Albert, and was also active on the southern portion of the British front and on the sector north of Mont Kemmel. An earlier report stated: Hostile artillery is active in the Somme valley and in the Albert sectors, between Locon and the Nieppe forest, and in the Lys valley. A French communique states : There is nothing to report except a somewhat lively reciprocal bombardment, notably on both banks of the Avre. Detachments penetrated the German lines north of ' Momeny. An earlier report stated : A fairly lively artillery duel is in progress south of the Avre. Our aeroplanes dropped six tons of projectiles on enemy railway stations, depots, and cantonments at Royon, Chauny,' , and Flavy le Martel, south of St. Quentin. Several fires were observed.
