PROTECTION AGAINST FLOOD
PROPERTY-HOLDERS' RIGHTS. [BY TELEGBAFH— ASSOCIATION.] GISBOEKE. Tuesday. Mb„ Justice Hosking gave judgment to-day in a civil action dealing with the right of property-holders to protect themselves against flood. The judgment follows an Appeal Court decision, and affirms that land may be embanked against floods, provided the river channel i s not interfered with; that flood waters flowing promiscuously over country are not to be created as flowing in any channel for purposes of this rule; and that for any JnjuVy done to other lands by a reasonable embankment tor the purpose of warding off such waters, no damage can be recovered by sufferers.
