RED CROSS CAMPAIGN.
COUNTRY ACTIVITIES
Hating completed his work in the city for the time being, Mr. C. F. Bickford, the honorary financial organiser of the Red Cross campaign, is now hard at work on the Auckland provincial campaign, which is taking the form of county competitions, queen carnivals, and stock drives. Rotorua, Opotiki, Whakatane, Te Puke, Tauranga, Waihi, Waikino, Paeroa, and Thames have already been visited and organised by Mr. Bickford, and are now actively -working up their campaigns. Whakatane reports that it hopes to be ready to commence to-day, and to raise £10,000. Te Puke started on Saturday with an objective of £7000. waihi and Waflrino have received a challenge from Paeroa, and commenced their activities last week. The miners, friendly societies, batterymen, and citizens are afi assisting. Tauranga is making extensive preparations, and hopes to start its campaign at once. Mr. Bickford has received telegrams from Mr. Piatt, Mayor of Opotiki, and Mr. Hill, resident officer at Rotorua showing that they- are actively engaged in their part of the campaign. To-day the second stage of the campaign starts, when the. honorary organiser leaves for Papalcura, Alfriston, and Manure. . «. S 2*ij » lu able contributions, such as freehold town building sections, stock, and diamond rings have already been donated to help augment the funds in the counties already organised. The obieetrre of this campaign is to reach £100.000, but if the counties to be visited follow on with the same enthusiasm as those already worked it is hoped that a ranch larger figure will be realised. *
