VIGOROUS OFFENSIVE BY BRITISH AIR FORGES.
I, - 1 .—. 37 ENEMY MACHINES ACCOUNTED FOR IN ONE DAY. MANY BOMBS DROPPED ON OSTEND AND ZEEBRUGGE. Australian and N.Z. and Reuter. (Reed. 5.5 p.m.). LONDON. May 10. Sir Douglas Haig's aviation report states: Cloudless weather on Thursday enabled a full day's work to be done. Our machines flew all day, reconnoitring and photographing. Our bombers displayed great activity along the whole front. They dropped 24 tons of bombs, their targets including the important railway stations of Tournai, Douai, Marcoing, Chaulnes, and Cambrai, billets at Carvin, Beronne and Chipilly, and the docks at Zeebrugge. Air fighting was almost continuous, becoming particularly fierce towards dusk. We brought down 27 German machines and drove clown IS! others. Six British machines are missing. Our nightfliers dropped 4$ tons of bombs on the docks and the entrance to the canal at Ostend, and tons on Peronne, Chaulnes. and Bapaume. All our machines returned. An earlier report stated: We dropped 10 tons of bombs on Le Cateau, Cambrai, Bapaume, and the Zeebrugge docks and mole. Strenuous air fighting occurred in the northern area. ' We dropped a ton of bombs during the night on the railway stations at Douai and Marcoing.
