DEAD WITH RIFLE BESIDE HIM

WELLINGTON. Monday. THE body of 8/2352, Private Henry Eric Walter, a member of the Otago Infantry Battalion, who left New Zealand with the fourth reinforcements, was found in the scrub at Mangaroa. Alongside the body was a rifle with a discharged cartridge in the breech. Walter had been missing for about six months. His relatives reside in England.
