LIFE INSURANCE TAXATION.
NEED FOR ALTERATION. [BY (TELEGRAPH.—SPECIAL correspondent.] WELLINGTON. Friday. ' The taxation of life insurance companies 1 was the subject of a statement by the I Minister for Finance to-day, in reply to a question by Mr. A. Harris (Waitemata), who drew attention to the difference in the treatment of the Australian Mutual Provident Society and the Government Life Insurance Office. Sir Joseph Ward said he had already promised to have inquiries made as to the methods of treating life insurance societies by way of taxation in all parts of the world. He recognised that there was a great necessity for the alteration of taxation as applied to those societies which distributed almost the whole j of their earnings in bonuses to assured ! persons.
