POLICE COURT NEWS.

IMPRISONMENT FOR THEFT. Charges of stealing a suit of clothes, valued at £2 17s 6d, and 10s in money, were admitted by (Jeorge Robinson in tho Polico Court before Mr. F. V. Fraser, S.M., yesterday. Sub-Inspector WohJman said accused, who had a bad record, stole the suit from a dealer's door and sold it to another dealer. At the police station lie was standing at tho counter while a drunken man was being searched. It was I found that 10s was missing from the latter's possessions, and when Robinson was searched it was found he had taken tho money. Accused was sentenced to six 1 months' imprisonment and ordered to be detainod for reformative treatment for not more than three years. Patrick Kavanagh was fined £1 for a breach of his prohibition order. Stanley Hildreth, who, whon driving a motorcycle past a stationary tramcar at a greater speed thai) five miles an hour, knocked down a pedestrian and rendered him unconscious, was fined 10s and 9s costs. As a result of complaints that some of those attending the Opera Home were making use of the Market Square as a convenience a watch was kept by plain-clothes constables. Ten men wore consequently charged with committing a nuisance. SubInspector Wnhlman said it was not suggested that the defendants were not decent men, but the cases had been brought with a v : -\v to impressing on the public that the->. eets must not be used as a convenience. There was a convenience in the vicinity, but it was too small to cope with the rush of men at the theatre interval.
