EMPLOYMENT OF ALIEN LABOUR. A meeting of the Auckland Railway! League was hold yesterday, Mr. P. & Cheal presiding. In respect to the employment of more men on thc'Waihi Athenrce / section of the East Coast Railway the resident engineer wrote stating that he could not put on more men until he had surveyed places for them. The Minister for Public Works wrote sUting that the bridge over the Ongaruo River, on the StratfordTe Koura line, could not be completed till a further supply of hardwood cfiild be obtained. Referring to the effort,-, of th. league jo induce the various country loca bodies to affiliate with the league, Mr. S. N. Westney urged that further efforts should be mado to obtain the operation of the lochJ bodies in order to present a unani- . mous front to the Government when asking for a proper allocation of future loan'' It was resolved that the league should again communicate with the local bodies that had not. yet affiliated, for the purple , indicated. ~.
