FRACAS ON THE WHARF
GUARD AND SHIP'S FIREMEN. THREE MEN ARRESTED. A fracas between a sentry on guard on the Queen's Wharf and several firemen from one of the steamers occurred at about 7.20 o'clock last evening. Four or five firemen were returning from the city, and one of them, on reaching the wharf gates, found that he had lost his passport. Two members of the party, becoming enraged at the sentry not allowing them to pass, attacked him, striking him in the faco. A soldier who came to the' assistance of the sentry was similarly treated. The gates were then closed and tho guard was called out. The fracas gradually subsided, and the firemen, realising that they were beaten, " counted themselves out" and expressed a desire to raturn quietly to their ship. Three of the men, who gave tho names of Henry Duffield, Edward Ford and John Cummings, were arrested by the police, and will be charged at the Police Court this morning by the assistant provost marshal On a charge of obstructing and assaulting a military guard on the wharf.
