GOOD DAIRYING SEASON.
LOCAL REQUIREMENTS SAFE. Tut telegraph—press association.] -WELLINGTON, Friday. The Prime Minister, the Hon. W. F. Massey, stated to-day that the season had been a good one, and the supply of dairy produco had kept up wonderfully well. The Government was alive to tho necessity for providing for winter requiremonta, and a sufficient quantity would be kept in Now Zealand for that purpose, tho surplus going to the Imperial Government. He said that it was fortunate for all concerned that the present arrangement with the Food Controller was made, otherwise, owing to the shortage of shipping, butter would have been in the same position as tallow and flax and other commodities not purchased, and which are stored in large quantities in the different centres. Up to the end of February during the present season 16,500 tons of butter nad been produced.
