During a discussion in tho House of Commons on national finance, Mr. Lief Jones, member for North Westmoreland, stated that in 1917 the drink bill was £259,000,000. The latest figures '\ would probably reach £270,000,000. This „. expenditure was overburdening tho nation. "He urged imitation of the Canadian and , American restrictions. Mr. J. R. Clynes, Under-Secretary to the Department of Food Control, stated that the materials used in the production of beer had been greatly over-estimated, amounting to only 3 per cent, (of tho nation's food.
