ENEMY ATTACK BROKEN EAST OP ARMENTIERES. MARKED INCREASE IN SHELLING SOUTH OF YPRES. Australian and N.Z. and Keuter. (Reed. 8 D.m.). LONDON. Mm. 10*. Sir Douglas Haig reports: A hostile raiding party, under cover of a "heavy bombardment, attacked our positions east of Armentieres, A few British are missing. We repulsed the attack. Artillery activity shows a marked increase between La Bassee Canal and Ypres. An earlier report stated: We made successful raids north-west of St. Quentin and south-west of Cambrai. Hostile artillery is still active at Armentieres, east of Wytschaete, and in the neighbourhood of the Ypres : Road.
