STRANGE RIFLE ACCIDENT.
200 MILES RIDE TO DOCTOR. [UY TELEGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION".] HOKITIKA, Thursday. A strange accident occurred yesterday at Okuru. in South Westland. A settler named J. Heveldt attempted to shoot .1 hawk with a pea-rifle. The charge failed , to explode, and he threw the rifle at the , bird, killing it. The concussion against i a tree caused the charge to explode, the bullet striking the man in the left wrist, necessitating a 200 miles ride to the nearest doctor.
