STRUCK BY FALLING ROCK. DEATH ALMOST INSTANTANEOUS. [BY TEL'EGRAra— COHIIESrONDEKT,] WAIHI, Wednesday. A fatal accident occurred in the Wnihi mine shortly after three o'clock this afternoon, tho victim being Mr. John Macpherson. Deceased and his mate, Mr. Gordon, were working in a stope off No, 4 shaft. Just prior to the accident they had fired a number of holes. After firing, Maepherson commenced breaking down tho shattered quartz and country rock over the back of the stope, '. when a piece of quartz, weighing upwards . of half a hundredweight, came away, ! striking him on the back of the head and ! knocking him down.
