- ♦ POSITION IN MELBOURNE. UNION OFFICERS DEFIED. A. and N.Z. MELBOURNE. Oot. 16. A meeting of seamen carried a motion of no-confidence in the union executive and another reaffirming the decision not to work with loyalist?. Mr. Cooper, general secretary of the Seamen's Federation, who came from Sydney to urge the men to resume, was refused a hearing. He was followed by a crowd of 200 when he left the meeting and assaulted. SYDNEY, Oot. 16. Owing to the seamen's strike several southern collieries have again been rendered idle.
