DEVONPORT BOROUGH.

The Devonport Borough Council met last evening, the Mayor, Mr. J. Henderson, presiding. v The Devonport Steam Ferry Company, Limited, notified that owing to the increased cost of running tho motor-'buses it would have to make an increase in the fares. Ihe Legal and Finance Committee was authorised to interview the company on the Matter. * It was decided to consider the. Question of the part the council should take in tho Stanley Bay Park scheme at a special meeting to-morrow evening. It was reported that the Government inspector had inspected the fire brigade. He had expressed himself as pieased with it in general, but he made suggestions for several improvements. The Mayor stated that he had attended a conference of delegates from the four north shore boroughs to discuss the constitution | of the Lake Takapuna Board of Control. The 1 conference had made several suggestions for [ the amendment of the constitution, including 1 on« that each borough should be represented on the board by two members, and others advocating extended powers for the board. Those siwvestiona would be f abodied in a Bill to bo put before next session. The council instructed its representative on. the board, Mr. J. ,P. Wright, to endeavour to have the appointmont of an engineer to that body deferred for twelve months,
