0 o .--i { 9 MR. WILLIAM LODDES. t ' - g Me. William Lodder, an old Auckland vl resident, died on Thursday at Drum-' j 3 moyne, Sydney. Mr. Lodder, who was a - native of Dorsetshire, came to New Zea--1 land sixty-one years ago, and saw service "! ] in the Wa'kato Maori war, when he was j 5 engineer ,011 a small steamer on the Wai- ' , kato River. He was subsequently manager > i of the Auckland Steam Packet Company, i and later acted in a similar capacity for i the Kaipara, Steamship Company. For a '• time he was Lloyd's suiveyor at Auckland. v Mr. Lodder was a prominent Freemason, having been master of the Remuera Lodge and also district grand master. He look an active part in church matters, having " been a member of St. Mark's vestry for some years. About 25 years ago Mr. and Mrs. Rodder svenf to Sydney where, a short time ago, they celebrated their golden wedding. Mr. Lodder is survived ■ by his wife, three sons and six daughters. ■ The eldest son is chief engineer a the v Gear freezing works, Wellington, and the other two "sons are engineers in Australia. Three daughters—Mrs. H. Kinder, and " 1 Mrs. Dettmann, wife of Professor H. S. Defctmann, of Remnera, and Mrs. Pullman, of Wuikato—are in New Zealand, and the other three reside in Australia.
