MOUNT EDEN BOROUGH.
- _ r _ ' A meeting of the Mount Eden Borough Council was held last night, Mr. C. Hudson, Deputy-Mayor, presiding. The Finance Committee's report, - recommending that half rates be allowed on the portion ofMr. J. C. Smith's property which his been vacant for six months, and that the borough engineer interview tho Railway partment's engineer with reference to items of tie account for the repairs to the Dominion Road bridge was adopted. , ' The City Council wrote suggesting' that control of the boundary .roads between the city and borough should be vested in the city, each local body to bear half tho cost of maintenance. Tho matter was referred to the engineer and the Streets Committee to report. ~,,-,,. It was decided to decline any responsibility in respect to tho maintenance of the Groat Norih Fond. Blake Street, and New North Road, tho Deputy-Mayor characterising as preposterous the suggestion of the Avondalo Road Board that the borough's share s'or the cost of upkeep should be Si per cent. .
