Rukutai made a good attempt to convert, but was 'unsuccessful. Auckland continued the pressure, and after a further spell of very fast play Lowrv scoured and scored. The soldiers now rallied, and were responsible for some brilliant play, but it was some time beforo they _ got the opportunity to score. After carrying play almost to tho goal line they were awarded a penalty, Clark taking the kick and placing the ball well b«iween the posts. The local team retaliated, and carried play to their opponents' territory, where- Wethtre'f secured and dashed across the line, thus further substantiating. Auckland's lead. Tho kick failed. The visitors now attacked in earnest-, and with some pretty play had the advantage of the same. From a gooff" passing rush the ball went to Q-uiney, who scored. Clark converted the try. Tho visitors again attacked in good stylo, a brilliant passing rush terminating in Hickey crossing the line. C.lark with a splendid kick added the points.
