Brown. . - f ' ■ Captain George Edmonds, who Was & familiar figure in the early days of the Wol-lington-Picton-Nelson run, died at Wellington recently. He came to New Zealand nearly 60 years ngo in one of the Blackwood vessels, subsequently joining the Union Com. pany, which was. then in its infancy. Captain Edmonds some years ago injured his back through fulling flown a hold at Pioton, and then acted as coastal pilot (or the Union Company. He never fully recovered from tho effects of the injury, and for th« last three years wasNinablo to leave his bed.

, * THE EINEMOA. The -local superintendent of .mercantile marine. Captain Flaming, has received advice that the Government steamer Hinemoa. is due to arrive here to-night. 1 " She will commence- to take in stores for the Northern lighthouses to-morrow morning.

NORTHERN COMPANY'S STEAMERS. . The Rarawa is to sail for New Plymouth at 4 p.m. tojday.'* The same train as advertised, will connect with the vessel. The Ngapuhi is to po .into dock to-morrow to complete her overhaul. She will resume her running to Tauranga. on Tuesday. October 23. The Greyhound, which has been discharging a cargo of Hokianga timber at Kopu is to sail from there lor Whangarei to-day. -.. < •' 1

THE* AWAHOU. The Richardson; steamer Awohou arrived from the East Coast bays yesterday morning, and berthed at the King's Wharf. She is timed to sail for the bays to-morrow evening.

THE KOWHAI. ' The Kowhai. «n route from Wellington to Auckland, via Napier, left the latter port on -Saturday night. She is due here this morning, and on arrival will berth at the Queen's Wharf to discharge her cargo of case oil.
