BLOW STRUCK AT YPRES UNDER BAD CONDITIONS.

MANY IMPORTANT STRONG POINTS CAPTURED. VIOLENT WEATHER CAUSES MODIFICATION OF AIMS. By Telegraph— Association—Copyright. Australian and N.Z. and Renter. (Reed. 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 13. Sir Douglas Haig "reports: Notwithstanding a night of heavy rain the troops attacked this morning on a five-mile front north-east of Ypres. The attack progressed along the entire front from the YpresRou'ers railway to our junction with the French, on the southern edge of Houthulst forest. Throughout this front we captured many defended localities, fortified farms, woods and concrete strong points, v with a number of prisoners. The fighting was especially severe on the slope of the main ridge itself, south of Passchendaele. Heavy rain recommenced this morning, and continued with increasing violence all day, impeding progress. Consequently we decided to make no further effort to reach the final objectives. There have been no ' counter-attacks. The prisoners taken number 741, including 41 officers. Australian and N.Z. (Received 11 p.m.) .LONDON, Oct. W. Sir Douglas Haig reports: Wet and stormy weather has prevailed. The usual reciprocal artillery activity has been displayed. Despite the weather our aeroplanes went out. Few enemy machines were encountered, and there was little air fighting. Nine enemy machines were brought down. Ten of ours are missing, evidently having been lost in the storms.
