. -is ♦ — , WAIMAKARIRI OVERFLOWS. [by telegraph.—press association.] CHRISTCHUECH, Monday. Tm Waimakariri River rose rapidly Yesterday afternoon, and the overflow resulted in the worst inundation known for three years. At Bealey the river was 6ft above normal, but is now receding. About fifty motorists, enticed out by the'fine day were caught on the way back to Christchurch, and most of them, had to stay in Kaiapoi. Three motor-car's were stuck in the water afChaney's, and .had to be pulled out by a horse. About 100 acres of Coutts Island was under water. Rakaia River is in heavy flood." Little damage has been done, except to tho pasture. I
