GAM IN DOMAIN,

The football gala which was held in the Domain on Saturday afternoon under the auspices of the Auckl/id Rugby League in conjunction with the Auckland Football Association was in every way successful, at least £200 being raised for the Returned Soldiers' Association, for whose benefit the gala was promoted. Ono of tho largest crowds that has attended a football match this season was present. Tho exhibitions of football in both codes were all that could be desired, fast and interesting contests being witnessed. The match under League rules was between Ponsonby, the winners of the ceaaon'i championship, and a combined team from the remainder of the clubs in the senior grade. The game was fast and even from start to finish, the scoro. with only * few minutes to play, boing 21 all. Right on time, however, the combined team scored another try, which was converted, thus winning a hard-fought game. Tho final of the Falcon . Cup competition was tho principal Association fixture of the afternoon. The contesting teams were Wild Rose and Brotherhood, tho latter winning after a hard and fast game. During the game the referee was tho subject of much comment from the Bide-lino and on the field. Towards tho end of the game ho ordered a Wild Rose player off the field, but he refused to go, consequently the whistle was blown, and the game terminated eight minutes before time. COMBINED TEAM V. PONSONBY. Prom tho kick-off the combined team launched an attack, and quickly forced their way into their opponents' territory. Their first score came within .a few minute a, Thomas crossing the line, and Davidson converting. Ponßonby now set out to equalise, and after some up and down play Lawry scored between the posts, Cross converting. Again the oombinod team attacked, and although momentarily chocked, they pressed forward, Nicholson securing, and crossing the line, thus putting the blacks again m tho lead. Wild Rose kicked 08 against Brotherhood. and within a few semutes from the commencement of the play they worked their wav to their opponents' territory. Tho ball was. however, cleared. and the Brotherhood forwards gaining possession took the ball down, and Knaggs receiving & nice pass from Harrison on the left wing, put in a shot that gave tho goal-keeper no chance. Brotherhood again attacked, and for a while the Wild Rose backs were kept busy. The latter'e forwards secured, ant with a good combined attack carried th;! 'ball towards the goal. Loniie passed to Hit!, who put tho ball well between the posts, but the coal was disallowed. Wild hose continued assressive play, and were unfortunate in not scoring on more than one occasion. Brotherhood . forwards now became aggressive, and with a good combined run earned the ball well down the .field, * splendid shot by Heyes just grazing the bar Both teams, were attacking spasmodically but no further score was added until just on half-time, when Corrra. from a free kick, added to Brotherhood a score. On resuming Brotherhood forwards woro again prominent, but tho advantage soon changed to their opponents, who. after a rneloo m front of the goal, openod their score .through the agency of Hill. Wild Rose continued to attack, and within a few minutes Hill again, found the net, thus equalising the scores. SIXTH GRADE. Th® sixth division match between Belmont and Technical College end a team selected from the remainder of. the teams in th® grade, resulted in a win for the former by 3 goals to 0. ( -
